Today, we went to Umm Qais, and oh boy was it worth it, no matter the fact that our service taxi driver to Irbid was slightly narcoleptic. Backtrack, we pull over on the side of the highway after he had laid his head to rest on the wheel. He goes to his trunk.
"Oh, I'm so happy that this is happening! He's going to pray right here," said one or two of us. What a story that will be! Too bad it wasn't our story. He splashed some water on his face, wiped off on a dirty towel, and got back in to drive. Five minutes into the drive he puts his glasses back on then steers around bends with his knees while he combs his hair. Whaaaa...

We got there. What's that you see in the background? Kinneret! The Sea of Galilee! And Tiberias! And the Golan Heights!! So close, we felt as if we could simply walk down the hill and take a dip in Jesus's boatless gondola pool.

After a wonderful day of dilly-dallying around some pretty sweet Roman ruins by one of the most controversial borders in the world, we headed back in a car that was clearly not a service taxi. Not a great idea, but the guy promised we wanted his car because he spoke English better than the other drivers. Ooookay...
